My IDENTITY AS A WRITING TEACHER

In my school days, I participated in essay competitions and won certificates too, because in our school we had Literary Club.

During my Diploma In Teacher Education at DIET, Kotagiri I participated in zonal-level essay competitions. The first year I won 2nd prize and in the second year won 1 prize. I was awarded Certificates, books, and cash prizes in the renowned college Shri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Periyanayakkan palayam, Coimbatore in Tamilnadu.

After joining my service in 2001, I started writing for compering. Many of them appreciated and encouraged me to do more. For other schools also I had written when they sought help. Being the president of the Teacher Welfare Association of my block (Coonoor ), I do creative announcements in my Mother Tongue.

In 2014, I wrote an essay about the book that sculptured me. I wrote about Shiv Khera's YOU CAN WIN. I was honored by the Coonoor Block Librarian and Block Level Educational Officer of our Nilgiri district.

In 2014 I also wrote an essay on the Teacher's role to bring change in the students, school, and society. My essay was selected and I was awarded the Ambitious Teacher award by Dinamalar newspaper.

The first time I submitted my abstract in English was in 2014 on Effective classroom practices to enable students for the 21st Century. My abstract was selected by SCERT Tamilnadu.

And I got the opportunity to present my paper on Innovations in and out of the classroom. That was selected by SCERT Tamilnadu among the top 100 and published.

I got a wonderful opportunity to participate in a curriculum framework seminar in 2017.

Nowadays I can express my ideas/ innovations in school in English. So I received Teacher Innovation Award 3 times from MHRD.

My responsibility as a writing teacher I encourage students to write short poems and short essays. Also guiding them together to bring out creative ideas through vocabulary games. I always instruct them to use ink pens to reduce plastic and beautify their handwriting. vocabulary games

Every month I conduct English Caligraphy. I upload it on Facebook, my FB friends choose the best. I will give them an Ink pen as a prize. For the past 3 years my friends are sending amount to get prizes to my sweet children.Some of them received Parker pens too.

I encourage my students to participate in Essay competitions out of school also. They received certificates, books, and medals too.

I am comfortable writing songs, poems, commentaries, and essays in my first language. Writing is a painting of the voice. Reading feeds the soul. writing nourishes it.

Dictating letter sounds, words or sentences is important for developing writing skills. So I regularly give dictation words based on the sounds and I encourage students to do the corrections on their own by interchanging their notebooks. I will dictate the spelling for spell check.

Regular revision and dictation will help all the children to master spelling. Guided writing is an important step in preparing children for independent writing. Initially, I'll encourage them in group writing.I motivate them to write both in Tamil and English.

I expressed my ideas and innovations in The Hindu newspaper contest and received Anbhasiriyar Award( lovable teacher)in 2020.That time my wish was to guide my students should write an essay that should be published in an article. I am hoping for the best writers from my school.

06/09/2025 is a remarkable day in my life because my students A.Sanjana Oraon ,K.Vinissha and S.Samiksha published the book "The Wild Elephants" (Melekeriya Maathu -A villages communal Banter)

Next month I will be presenting my paper in an AINET conference on the topic Budding Writers emerging from Bilingual Materials because my interest in writing persistently and consistently
